What does the term eye relief mean?

Eye relief refers to the distance between the eyepiece of a monocular or binocular and the viewer's eye at which the entire field of view is visible without vignetting or shadowing. In other words, eye relief is the maximum distance that the viewer's eye can be from the eyepiece and still see the full image.

Eye relief is important because it affects the comfort and ease of use of a monocular or binocular, particularly for people who wear eyeglasses or have eye conditions. If the eye relief is too short, the viewer may have to press their eye against the eyepiece, which can be uncomfortable and may cause the image to appear distorted. If the eye relief is too long, the viewer may not be able to see the full field of view.

Manufacturers often specify the eye relief of their monoculars or binoculars, and it is usually measured in millimeters. A longer eye relief is generally more comfortable for users who wear eyeglasses or have eye conditions, as it allows them to view the full image without removing their glasses or pressing their eye too closely to the eyepiece.

To ensure a perfect viewing experience, we have equipped all our ZOOMR binoculars and monoculars with rotating eyecups. They ensure that you can adjust the eye relief to your personal needs.
